Designing vSAN Networks – Using Multiple…

vSAN can leverage a number of core ESXi networking features to increase performance and availability. vSAN VMkernel ports should always be configured to use more than one interface to preserve availability in the event of a link failure. There are a number of ways to configure this fail over.

Installation and Configuration Guide for…

VDP formally known as vSphere Data Protection, designed and powered by EMC Avamar. It’s fully integrated with vCenter and Web Client. VDP solution has designed for backup and restoration of VMware Virtual Machines. VDP is appliance which is build up with Suse Linux, and runs with 4vCPU and 4 GB of RAM. It’s prepackaged OVF which is very simple to deploy in environment. While thinking about sizing the datastore, make sure you to use a larger Data Protection datatastore, as it cannot be increased once application has been deployed. Refer to recommendation from VMware for VDP data sizing.

vROPS – survive the Kraken – Endpoint…

Guess who’s back, back again… Next to doing End User Computing engagements, where user experience, performance and capacity management is also an integral part, I occasionally am involved in separate operations management engagements. And with VMware often vRealize Operations Manager, or vROPS, shows its face. As some would have noticed I mentioned vROPS in articles on this blog before. This time I am going to dive a little into growing some more tentacles and getting some more insights besides our old vSphere friend.

I have been spending quite a bit of time lately with PowerCLI Core, especially with one of my pet projects. One of the limitations that PowerCLI Core has today is that the Storage cmdlets which includes vSAN and VVol functionality has not been ported over yet. This means that if you need to do something with VM Storage Policies for example, it would not be possible with PowerCLI Core and you would have to use the Windows PowerCLI version instead.

Learning more about Predictive DRS

Predictive DRS is a new feature in vSphere 6.5 that leverages the predictive analytics of vRealize Operations Manager with the powerful resource scheduler algorithm of vSphere DRS. Together, these two products enable workload balancing for certain VMs before resource utilization spikes occur, potentially eliminating a great amount of resource contention that might have occurred in the past.

Custom vRealize Operations Dashboards with…

Blue Medora provides hundreds of dashboards out of the box, but there are still times custom dashboards are required. A client recently contacted me wanting to create an executive level dashboard showing his MSSQL environment health. His requirements were to provide very high level health metrics which executives could use. He also wanted them to only have access to that specific dashboard.

New vSAN Management Pack for vRealize Operations

Last month we announced the release of a new vROps Management Pack specifically for vSAN. Previously the vSAN Management Pack was bundled with the MPSD – Management Pack for Storage Devices. I wrote about this when it entered beta, way back in 2015. Well, for those customers who are only interested in monitoring vSAN, and didn’t want all the other parts of the MPSD, the new vSAN Management Pack is now a stand-alone offering, so no MPSD required.

What Is an Identity-Defined Security Perimeter?

In my recent blog post, I touched upon the common, or single, experience strategy and how identity is the new perimeter for that strategy in the enterprise. Today, I want to take a deeper dive into what it means. How exactly does identity define your users’ experiences? How can companies take advantage of this to create delight while securely enabling users?
