How many Fault Domains?
Some weeks ago I was involved in a discussion with a customer on their design around fault domains. There was an interesting scenario which was proposed and I was asked for my opinion or validation of the aproach. Before I talk about the solution let me re-cap what Fault Domains in VSAN are. The default storage policy in VSAN is to maintain 2 equal copies of a data object and 1 witness of metadata object, we call this Failures to Tolerate = 1. Traditionally, these objects would be automatically distributed across a separate host in the cluster allowing for the loss of 1 host, disk or other component in the cluster. This loss would only result in the VM’s compliance being negatively reported until the rebuild operation has completed and…Read More

Using nVidia GPGPU Compute Acceleration with ESX 6.0
As was mentioned in a previous blog post , accelerator cards are becoming increasingly common in HPC environments and so it is important that we assess the performance of such cards with ESX. Thank you very much to Na Zhang for all of her work on the following. In this post, we share the results of running the Scalable HeterOgeneous Computing ( SHOC ) benchmark and a CUDA-enabled version of the LAMMPS molecular dynamic program on ESX 6.0. We used a loaner nVidia Grid K2 card for this test to…Read More

How to Efficiently Synchronize, Import and Export Content in VMware vSphere Content Library
By Joanna Guan and Davide Bergamasco In a prior post we assessed the performance of VMware vSphere Content Library, focusing on the instantiation of a virtual machine from an existing library. We considered various scenarios and provided virtual infrastructure administrators with some guidelines about the selection of the most efficient storage backing based on a […] The post How to Efficiently Synchronize, Import and Export Content in VMware vSphere Content Library appeared first on VMware…Read More
