Preparing your hosts for NSX in production is usually fairly straight forward, in my lab however I only have a single host, so this will fail.

#VMware NSX for Horizon
VMware NSX for Horizon brings speed and simplicity to VDI networking. Within seconds, IT administrators can create policies that dynamically follow virtual desktops, without the need for time-consuming network provisioning. Extending security policy from the data center to the device, this joint solution provides a highly extensible platform that integrates with industry-leading security solutions.
[Whitepaper] 7 Reasons Why Micro-segmentation is Powerful to Have and Painless to Add
Like any industry transition, software-defined storage will take several years to be fully realized. But even at this early stage, the “genetic code” behind this new approach to storage is becoming better understood. While we will certainly see variations on a core theme, the essence behind software-defined storage serves to differentiate it from other forms. As software-defined storage grows and matures, this blueprint has the ability to change how we think about storage: both as a standalone discipline and as part of an integrated software-defined data center.
#VMware Continues to Grow NSX SDN Revenue
After only two and half years, NSX is now a core part of VMware’s business growth.
A vCenter, NSX Manager, Multiple DCs…and I Can’t Reach Them (via blog.senasosa.com)
You conceded the point and your team will be using a single vCenter to manage multiple physical Data Centers. All right, not the end of the world, you’ll be fine. But a few developers are requiring Layer 2 across some of those Data Centers. Again, not the end of the World; besides that’s what NSX is for.
Let the #VMware NSX platform be your own personal bodyguard (via TechTarget)
Take a look at these five quick tips to get a better understanding of the benefits VMware NSX can bring to your software-defined data center.
Enhanced Disaster Recovery with Cross-VC NSX and SRM
Check-out the new Disaster Recovery with NSX and SRM white paper that explains how Cross-VC NSX + VMware’s SRM offers an Enhanced Disaster Recovery (DR) solution and solves many of the challenges related to traditional DR solutions. This solution provides consistent logical networking and security across protected and recovery sites and faster recovery upon disaster scenarios. A summary and overview of the solution is provided below.
Design Guide for #VMware NSX running with a Cisco ACI Underlay Fabric
This document provides guidance for networking and virtualization architects interested in taking advantage of the full functionality of VMware NSX while utilizing Cisco ACI for underlay network functionality. While neither solution has a dependency on each other, there are dependencies to ensure interoperability. This paper discusses the fundamental building blocks of NSX with VMware ESXi and recommended underlay configurations with Cisco’s ACI.
Stretched cluster with NSX (via cloudfix.nl)
Last NLVMUG I was talking about stretched clusters. My presentation elaborated somewhat on how VMware NSX can help you deal with challenges that arise when deploying a stretched cluster solution. In this blogpost I want to have a closer look at this specific topic.

[Resource] #Openstack + NSX Networking Deep Dive
I have been playing with NSX and VIO a lot recently and wanted to get to grips with the mechanics of what VIO was actually orchestrating in NSX under the flashy GUI. Going through the VMware communities I found this absolutely indispensable powerpoint explaining in as much depth as you can hope for, all the ins and outs of VIO NSX orchestration and specific use cases.
#NSX and nested ESXi environments: caveats and layer-2 troubleshooting via (vLenzker.net)
After having NSX running in a nested environment, I started last week to integrate / built a NSX environment between my physical and nested ESXi hosts. To be honest, achieving this was more complicated than I have expected. Anyway it was a good trip to improve my NSX troubleshooting skills and maybe the key-findings can help one or another to avoid the problems I had.
NSX: Cluster is already configured for VXLAN
Among the things I tend to do when preparing to delve into a product and of course it certification is to rip apart my lab in a continuous pace because I tend to break it as much as I can, but this time I didn’t do it myself 🙁 and I didn’t get to enjoy it *sniff*.

This video is a quick demonstration of the virtualization-centric Zero Trust capabilities of VMware NSX for vSphere
[Video] Network Automation with VMware NSX
This short demonstration shows how VMware NSX, in coordination with an Orchestration Solution, can help drive network provisioning and automation for a multi-tier application without any dependencies on the underlying physical network infrastructure.

Important – vCNS and #NSX End of Availability and Support Notifications
For a while now we have known that vCloud Networking and Security’s days where numbered…with the release of NSX as a replacement+ product it had been communicated to current vCNS customers that an upgrade to NSX-v would be on the cards to ensure continued support and functionality. The date has now been set for the EOA of vCNS and in somewhat of a surprise to me VMware also last week announced the EOA for NSX-v 6.1.x will reach end of availability later in the year.

NSX Bytes: Controller Deployment Gone Bad?
With NSX becoming more and more widely available there are more NSX home labs being stood up and with that the chances of the NSX Controllers failing due to “Home Lab” nested issues become more prevalent. The NSX Controllers are Ubuntu Linux VMs and like any Linux VM are fairly sensitive to storage latency and other issues that appear in #NestedESXi or lab environments.
