VMware EVO SDDC: An Insider’s View

VMware was the first to paint a vision of the Software-Defined Datacenter as the architecture for hybrid cloud. In an SDDC all infrastructure resources and services (compute, storage and networking) are virtualized and more flexibly provisioned and managed through a policy-based, application centric approach. VMware customers have recognized the value of SDDC and are asking

Scaling Performance for VAIO in vSphere 6.0 U1

There have been questions around the overhead of the VAIO framework due to its extra user-to-kernel communication. In this blog post, we evaluate the performance of vSphere APIs for I/O Filtering using a null I/O filter and demonstrate how VAIO scales with respect to the number of virtual machines and outstanding I/Os (OIOs). The null I/O filter accepts each I/O request and immediately returns it.

vCPU to pCPU Ratios – Are they still relevant?

One question I’m commonly asked (aka weekly if not daily) is what are the perfect pCPU to vCPU ratios that I should plan for, and operate to, for maximum performance. I wanted to document my perspective for easy future reference. The answer? There is no common ratio and in fact, this line of thinking will […] The post vCPU to pCPU Ratios – Are they still relevant? appeared first on VMware vSphere Blog .

By Romain Decker VMware introduced a new component with vSphere 6, the Platform Services Controller (PSC). Coupled with vCenter, the PSC provides several core services, such as Certificate Authority, License service and Single Sign-On (SSO). Multiple external PSCs can be deployed serving one (or more) service, such as vCenter Server, Site Recovery Manager or vRealize […] The post Configuring NSX-v Load Balancer for use with vSphere Platform Services Controller (PSC) 6.0 appeared first on…Read More

Dynamic Host-Wide Performance Tuning in VMware…

by Chien-Chia Chen Introduction The networking stack of vSphere is, by default, tuned to balance the tradeoffs between CPU cost and latency to provide good performance across a wide variety of applications. However, there are some cases where using a tunable provides better performance. An example is Web-farm workloads, or any circumstance where a high […] The post Dynamic Host-Wide Performance Tuning in VMware vSphere 6.0 appeared first on VMware VROOM! Blog .

By Dharma Rajan Today’s data center (DC) typically has one or more firewalls at the perimeter securing it with a strong defense, thus preventing threats to the DC. Today, applications and their associated content can easily bypass a port-based firewall using a variety of techniques. If a threat enters, the attack surface area is large. 5 reasons why ESXi embedded host client is awesome

The ESXi embedded host client is a fling developed by the folks at VMware labs, for accessing ESXi host over a web browser. The UI is built using HTML and is quite fast as compared to the flash based interface which was used by the host client released earlier with version 6.0 or the vSphere web client that is used today to access vCenter over the browser.
