Often times what you get out of the box isn’t exactly what you need. The great thing about vRealize Operations is that it is quite customizable – from it’s great dashboarding capabilities, reporting, capacity planning, to policies, which allow for customizing how vRealize Operations treats different groups of resources. In this blog, we’ll explore how relationships can manually be created between resources – which helps admins understand how performance and availability of a resource is related to the performance and availability of it’s dependent resources. Additionally, we’ll take a look at collection intervals and how they can be customized to accommodate business requirements.

VMware app volumes AppToggle – deep dive
Yesterday I did a test with the new customization in VMware app volumes, today I’m testing AppToggle in app volumes. AppToggle is about having multiple applications in one appstack and being able to assign some to one user and some to other. The idea behind it is that you have less appstacks, there is a limit with the number you can connect, and therefor everything stays workable and fast.
Virtual Blocks: Is Storage DRS Still Needed With Virtual Volumes?
A question that has been coming up frequently in conversations I have had with customers is why Storage DRS is not supported with Virtual Volumes or Virtual SAN? In fact this question came up again in a customer call on Thursday morning with one of our customers who wanted to understand more about the benefits of Virtual Volumes. Heads Up: OVF/OVA always deployed as Thick on VSAN when using vSphere Web Client
Just wanted to give folks a heads up on an issue that a colleague of mines recently identified when provisioning Virtual Appliances (OVF/OVA) onto a VSAN datastore when using the vSphere Web Client. He found that regardless of the VSAN Storage Policy that was selected, whether it is the default VSAN Storage Policy or a custom one, the Virtual Appliance will always be Thick provisioned.

This week I had the pleasure to have a chat with Marc Huppert (VCDX181). Marc works for Computacenter in Germany as a Senior Consultant and Category Leader VMware Solutions. He primarily focuses on datacenter technology. I noticed a tweet from Marc that he was working on a project where they will be implementing a 60 site ROBO deployment. It is one of those use cases that I don’t get to see too often in Europe so I figured I would drop him a note. With the release of VSAN 6.2 (vSphere 6.0 Update 2), a new VSAN Management API has been introduced which covers all aspects of VSAN functionality including: complete lifecycle (install, upgrade, patch), monitoring (including VSAN Observer capabilities), configuration and troubleshooting. Although there is a well documented VSAN Management API Reference Guide which you can navigate around, I personally find it useful to be able to have a quick reference to all the APIs in on place which I can easily search and reference. This is especially true when I am learning about a new API.
