A few weeks ago i upgraded a customer environment to latest release of VMware vSphere. Customer ran 5.5 U2 and now they wanted version 6.0 U2 for both vCenter Server and ESXi. The entire process was pretty straight forward and the only little bump we had was the vShield Manager to vCenter Server Lookup Service registration. We decided to use a fresh installation of vShield Manager since new services were about to be implemented in the customer environment and the old services used by the previous vShield Manager was no longer in use.

Earlier this year around the March timeframe, I published a white paper providing network configuration guidance for deploying Virtual SAN across L2 and L3 networks. In the white paper, I covered all of the necessary configuration artifacts required to prepare and build a routed network for the deployment of Virtual SAN. In the paper, I provided all of the required configuration examples for all of the necessary networking devices (L2 and L3 devices) for two different vendors (Cisco and Brocade)

Last week I posted a tweet saying “Friends don’t let friends delete the NSX-v VTEP PortGroup” and as most of us do in our industry we learn by doing and I found out the hard way that you shouldn’t mess with the PortGroup created during the Host Preparation of the NSX setup and configuration stage. This PortGroup is used by the Hosts in an NSX Enabled Cluster for the VMKernel Interfaces that are the VTEPs or VXLAN Tunnel End Points.
