Advertise here with BSA I was asked by a few people to share the slides for our Top 10 vSAN session at VMworld. Instead of sending the slides around via email I figured I would simply throw it up on slideshare and share it here. ” Sharing the “Top 10 things to know about vSAN” slides… ” originally appeared on Yellow-Bricks.com . vSAN Operations: Use Out-of-Band Management to…

Visibility to vSphere hosts through out-of-band management has always been a convenient way to access the vSphere Direct Console User Interface (DCUI). Traditionally, remote management using Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) or some other method, provided the pre-boot visibility and control necessary to update firmware on the host, and see the host state if it The post vSAN Operations: Use Out-of-Band Management to view vSphere DCUI During Host Restarts appeared first on…Read More

When designing vSphere clusters, vSAN or not, its pretty common knowledge that the hardware should match as much as possible. There are times when this is not possible, or doesn’t make sense.

I really like vSAN! If you’re looking for an easy, affordable, very well performing and scalable storage solution, there you go. VMware vSAN is ready to take all your workloads. It doesn’t matter if it’s just your nested lab environment, or something more serious like a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), big data or business critical applications like SQL databases and Microsoft Exchange servers.

vSAN Operations: Maintain Slack Space for…

vSAN “slack space” is simply free space that is set aside for operations such as host maintenance mode data evacuation, component rebuilds, rebalancing operations, and VM snapshots. Activities such as rebuilds and rebalancing can temporarily consume additional raw capacity. Host maintenance mode temporarily reduces the total amount of raw capacity a cluster has. New vSAN Stretched Cluster Topology now…

After publishing the vSAN Networking Guide earlier this year, Paudie O’Riordain and I received numerous questions regarding support on having different stretched clusters hosting each other’s witness appliances. These queries arose because we discussed a 2-node (ROBO) topology which allowed this to sort of configuration (i.e. the cross hosting of witnesses) via special request. But …

List all “thick” swap files on vSAN – Yellow…

As some may know, on vSAN by default the swap file is a fully reserved file. This means that if you have a VM with 8GB of memory, vSAN will reserve 16GB capacity in total for it. 16GB? Yes, 16GB as the FTT=1 policy is also applied to it. In vSAN 6.2 we introduced the ability to have swap files created “thin” or “unreserved”
